| Every
project presents its own unique challenges and this
room proved no exception to the rule! Natural green
alder was the colour chosen for this 250 year old cottage
in a sleepy village near Woodstock. The floors and walls
were full of character and deviated up to 5cm/2inches
out of level. This was picked up when the pre-installation
survey was carried out using a tape measure, an accurate
spirit level and years of experience! Subsequently the
furniture was manufactured accordingly.
Exact storage requirements are one of the most important
factors to take into account when planning a bedroom
design, and incorporated behind the wardrobe doors there
is a perfect mix of shelving and hanging as discussed
with the client. If the rails were placed end to end
they would give a combined length of 3425mm/11’3’’.
The height of the units were determined by a large
oak beam running across the width of the room and its
relation to the highest and lowest points of the floor.
To sympathise with the beam and feel of the cottage,
solid oak worktops were selected and colour matched.
Incorporating a 'stable door' to the right hand wardrobe
allowed a drawer unit to be fitted in neatly without
compromising on design or storage. Solid brass antique
knobs were fitted to complement the overall feel and
look of the room.
This bedroom was installed in November 2002 and including
fitting and v.a.t. the total cost was less than £4,500.00. |
